Birth

There is no record of Barnard's birth in the *Dalston parish records (which begin in 1570).

Marriage

The marriage of Barnard and Mabell is probably the one recorded in the *Dalston parish records v1 p110:
"1611 July 23 Barnard Barton et Mabell Robinson".
His will (below) mentions his wife "Mabell Barton"

Burial

In the *Dalston parish records is the entry (v1 p180):
"1633 Sr Barnard Barton buried the 16 of June".

(Lower down on the same page is an entry reading "The right worshippfull Sr JOHN DALDSTON knight was buried the 2 of December", and this seems to suggest that 'Sr' does indeed mean 'Sir'. But who was this beknighted Barton?)

Children

His will (below) mentions his children Elizabeth, John and Margaret. This accords with the will of his wife Mabell.

Will and testament

The will of 'Sr Barnard Barton' is available from the *Cumbria archive service. It is very hard to read, but my best efforts follow:

"The Last Will and testament of Sr Barnard Barton Clarke

Christopher:Richmonde
George Robinson
[signed by] Barnard Barton"

The Richmonds were the owners of High Head Castle near Ivegill, and George Robinson may have been the brother of his wife.
Presumably Barnard Barton's occupation was 'Clarke' (scribe or secretary), but the chattels he leaves behind in his will seem rather more like the belongings of a humble farmer!
